Event Details

Last year we had between 120-150 people turn out. Let’s see if we can get that many again this year. It’s a family friendly event, so bring everyone along! You’ll need to bring outerwear appropriate for the weather (e.g. jackets, rain gear), gumboots, gloves, a spade for digging, sunglasses, a hat, and some water. And if you’d like to stay for a feed, remember to bring your own dish so we can minimise rubbish.

As before, we’ll plan to meet at the Brymer Rd carpark (across from the entrance to the Hamilton Zoo) at 10:30am, where we’ll have a short briefing. We’ll then head down into the park for planting. Gerry and the City Council team will have placed the saplings out and about for us to plant. Plan on planting about 5-12 saplings each. We’ll then have a free shared lunch available and some hot drinks.

Food Donations: Some of our partner organisations (e.g. Kaivolution, GoEco, Bahá’í Community, etc.) will help provide food for making sandwiches. Please drop me a quick email if you or your organisation/group/association are interested to donating food for the shared lunch. We’ll need things like bread/rolls, mayo, butter, tomatoes, cucumbers, salads, veggies, hummus, biscuits, drinks to share, tea/coffee etc.

We also need volunteers for food prep so if you don’t want to dig or get muddy, come and help with the food preparation and set up.

Back up date in case of really bad weather: Saturday 1 August, 10:30-1:00pm.

If you haven’t been to Waiwhakareke in a while, you’re in for a real treat, with new facilities and walking paths. So get members of your various groups and organisations to come out and have a fun time!

Looking forward to seeing you all again and meeting many new faces!
