Waikato Biodiversity Forum


The next Waikato Biodiversity Forum is to be held on  Monday, 31 May 2010 from 9.15am-3.15pm at the Tapapa Hall, Tapapa West Road, off SH 28

 Key outcomes

  • Feedback provided to South Waikato District Council on biodiversity protection for their District Plan review
  • Release of the State of the Environment report for the Kaimai Mamaku
  • Practical measures to enhance the forest fragments on private land in the South Waikato district

The next Waikato Biodiversity Forum is to be held on Monday 29 June 2009 from 9am-3.20pm in the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, Q block, Wintec, Avalon Drive, Hamilton

Key outcome: Discuss the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park project and develop solutions for maintaining the momentum.

This Forum is an opportunity for you to:-

  • have fun and share ideas with others who undertake conservation related work;
  • establish on-going partnerships/contacts for biodiversity restoration;
  • visit the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park and examine management issues of the site;
  • contribute to developing solutions for advancing the project;
  • publicise the project to the wider community;
  • highlight the projects of community groups in the area;
  • provide collective Forum expertise;
  • take away ideas for your own restoration projects.

Hey kids leap along to Driving Creek Railway during the first week of the school holidays and check out the frog week displays and activities.  Ride on one of Driving Creek Railways ‘Frog Trains' named after Coromandel's native frogs. Waikato Biodiversity Forum


The next Waikato Biodiversity Forum is to held on 9 June 2008 at Waitetoko Marae near Turangi. The main topic of the day will be Wetland Management with a particular focus on the wetlands situated at the southern end of Lake Taupo. There will be a field trip in the afternoon. The next Waikato Biodiversity Forum will be held in Tokoroa on Thursday the 29 November 2007 9am -3pm at Amisfield Primary School Hall Moffat Road, just south of Tokoroa.
Conservation Week 12–19 September Activity

Show your natural affection for NZ by:
• Exploring a bush reserve that is not readily accessible to the public
• Learning more about native plants and testing your knowledge
• Helping plant trees as a memento of your visit
• Having fun finding and indentifying insects in the bush
• Releasing native trees to grow strongly

Date: Sunday, 19 September 2010
Time: 10.30am -1.30pm
Place to meet: Koromatua School, Koromatua Road, off Tuhikaramea Road to be transported to Barrett Bush
What to bring: Lunch and drink, strong boots/shoes/wet weather gear
