Vision Statement



The Waikato Biodiversity Forum Vision


Waikato -a place for our living taonga-where the community values and works collaboratively to protect, enhance and restore indigenous biodiversity.


The Forum will take the following actions towards achieving it's vision:

Advocacy



  • Pursue opportunities to obtain funds to run Forum projects, which contribute to the protection, maintenance and restoration of biodiversity in the Region.
  • Advocate the development of sound policy and objectives to enhance biodiversity protection at the national, regional, and local levels.


Community networks



  • Maintain and increase community networks to promote the exchange of ideas, technical information and skills, and to support and encourage groups to work together on protection of biodiversity.


Facilitate co-operation



  • Facilitate co-operation between agencies, by providing a forum to network, share ideas and enter into partnerships for research, education, monitoring and reporting, policy development and management actions to protect and enhance biodiversity.
  • Liaise with iwi, hapu and whanau to work together to achieve shared outcomes and support the kaitiaki role of tangata whenua.
  • Maintain and increase community networks to promote the exchange of ideas, technical information and skills, and to support and encourage groups to work together on protection of biodiversity.


Projects



  • Engage collaboratively with agencies and community groups by managing regional projects, such as Restoring Waikato's Indigenous Biodiversity: Ecological Priorities and Opportunities document, Forum events, award nominations and other projects.
