Waikato Biodiversity Forum meetings.


The Waikato Biodiversity Forum meets twice yearly in different areas of the Region. These meetings are an all day event with speakers on particular topics of interest to the area and a field trip. The following topics have been the focus of previous Forum days:

  • Geothermal areas of Taupo -sensitive flora and protection of this ecosystem
  • Mangroves in Whangamata -the issues surrounding the growth of mangroves and the ecological value of mangroves
  • Wetlands of north Waikato with a particular focus on bush and wetland restoration on a local farm
  • Tips, discussion and information sharing on how to establish and maintain community group enthusiasm and momentum
  • Community groups and education in the Te Kuiti area with a focus on the work of Project Manu in the Mangaokewa Gorge
  • Restoration plan for the edge of Mt Te Aroha
  • Funding options
  • Community group projects -contribution to regional biodiversity protection and improvement
  • Discussion on re-vegetation of the western slopes of Karioi
  • Kaimai Mamaku Campaign to restore biodiversity to this area
